Today’s Organizing Task: CDs, DVDs and Games in the Family Room

We've finished deep-cleaning the laundry room, so now it's time to begin the process of deep-cleaning the family and/or living room. Let's start that by tackling the entertainment cabinet first.

1. Clear the shelves: Pull all of your CDs, DVDs, and games from the shelves where you keep them in the family room.

2. Wipe it: Use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe the shelves thoroughly, both above and below. (Yes, dust accumulates on the bottom of things.) If your shelves are wood, now’s a good time to use some furniture polish to give them a nice shine.

3. Organize it: Alphabetize your DVDs and CDs. Divide your games by console (PS4, Wii, XBox, etc.) then alphabetize each group, too.

4. Purge it: If your kids have outgrown certain games or movies, consider selling them to Amazon or listing them on eBay. Places like Goodwill might welcome them, too.

5. Shelve it: Return the remaining items to shelves by group. As you do, take a moment to make sure titles all face the same way; they’ll be easier to find and they’ll look better, too.
